In mid-October 2022, some residents received letters from a paralegal named Elaine Page of Page Paralegal.
These letters came as a shock to residents who have otherwise paid rent on time and remained entirely unproblematic.
The timeline given in these letters was also shocking. In the middle of winter and through the holidays, for people who already have so much stress on their minds, housing insecurity is an entirely unnecessary stress to compound on them. And such a short window of time to pack up their homes unplanned, look for housing elsewhere, and leave all within a little more than THREE MONTHS.
The language used in these letters was also jarring. "You are not being evicted at this time" and "You are not being served an N13 at this time" implying that at the moment we're not being evicted but later we will be? If not now, then when?
The paralegal also writes "To be clear this is not the same as the "renovictions” that you may have heard about in the news." The residents would like to know, what constitutes a "renoviction" if not EXACTLY this!
